Baked Apple Fritters

Delicious baked apple fritters combining warm baked apples with cinnamon and nutmeg in a fluffy fritter.

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup white whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter, cut into pieces
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup chopped apples (preferably Jonagold)
  • Spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  3. Mix the all-purpose flour, white whole wheat flour, brown sugar, and your spices in a large bowl.
  4. Cut in the cold butter pieces until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Add the whisked milk and egg into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chopped apples until evenly distributed.
  7. Scoop the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each fritter.
  8. Bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Cool on a wire rack and optionally glaze with powdered sugar and milk.

Notes

These fritters freeze beautifully; warm them in the oven when ready to enjoy again.
