Homemade School Cafeteria Pizza

Recreate the classic school cafeteria pizza with this easy homemade recipe, featuring a chewy crust, gooey cheese, and your favorite toppings.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Toppings of choice

Instructions

  1. Combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast in a medium bowl. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it bubbles up.
  2. Whisk together the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl, then create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture along with the olive oil.
  3. Mix until a dough starts to form, then transfer it to a floured surface.
  4. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  5. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  6. Punch down the risen dough, roll it out to your desired thickness, and place it on a greased baking sheet.
  7. Spread pizza sauce over the dough, sprinkle cheese, and add your favorite toppings.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbling.
  9. Cool for a few minutes before slicing.
