Easy Glazed Orange Scones with Fresh Orange

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter (cold)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 12 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (melted)
  • 1 orange zested
  • ½ orange (juiced)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add the cold grated butter to the flour mixture and rub until crumbly.
  4. Whisk together cream, egg, vanilla paste, orange zest, and orange juice in a separate bowl.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and mix until no dry flour remains.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and form into a 1-inch thick disk.
  7. Cut into 8 triangles or use a round cutter.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Whisk together glaze ingredients until smooth while scones bake.
  10. Cool scones for 5 minutes, then drizzle with glaze.

Notes

Serve warm with extra glaze for dipping. Pairs well with tea or coffee and fruit preserves.
