Biscuits and Gravy Casserole

A savory and comforting casserole featuring flaky biscuits topped with creamy sausage gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)
  • 1/4 cup (30 g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups (600 ml) milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 cans (about 16 oz / 450 g) refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped fresh parsley or chives for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Make the gravy by sprinkling flour over the cooked sausage and stirring to coat.
  4. Add the milk gradually while stirring continuously until the gravy thickens (about 3-5 minutes).
  5. Season the gravy with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and crushed red pepper flakes.
  6. Prepare the biscuit dough by cutting each biscuit into quarters.
  7. Assemble the casserole by greasing a 9×13-inch baking dish, layering biscuit pieces, and pouring gravy over them.
  8. Add the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  9. Bake covered with foil for 25-30 minutes, then remove foil and bake for another 10 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Garnish with chopped parsley or chives before serving.

Notes

For variations, try spicy sausage or make it vegetarian with mushrooms and spinach.
